Computer-Aided Image-Guided Bone Fracture Surgery: Modeling, Visualization, and Preoperative Planning

چکیده
This paper describes the Fracas computer-integrated or-thopaedic system for assisting surgeons in closed long bone fracture reduction. Fracas' goals are to reduce the surgeon's cumulative exposure to radiation and improve the positioning accuracy by replacing uncorre-lated static uoroscopic images with a virtual reality display of 3D bone models created from preoperative CT and tracked intraoperatively in real-time. Fluoroscopic images are used to register the bone models to the intraoperative situation and to verify that the registration is maintained. This paper describes the system concept, and the software prototypes of the modeling, preoperative planning, and visualization modules.

FRACAS: a system for computer-aided image-guided long bone fracture surgery.
This article describes FRACAS, a computer-integrated orthopedic system for assisting surgeons in performing closed medullary nailing of long bone fractures. FRACAS's goal is to reduce the surgeon's cumulative exposure to radiation and surgical complications associated with alignment and positioning errors of bone fragments, nail insertion, and distal screw locking. It replaces uncorrelated, sta...
متن کاملThree-dimensional planning and simulation of hip operations and computer-assisted construction of endoprostheses in bone tumor surgery.
OBJECTIVE This article presents the VIRTOPS (VIRTual Operation Planning in Orthopaedic Surgery) software system for virtual preoperative planning and simulation of hip operations. The system is applied to simulate the endoprosthetic reconstruction of the hip joint with hemipelvic replacement, and supports the individual design of anatomically adaptable, modular prostheses in bone tumor surgery....
متن کاملA Moving Least Squares method for implant model deformation in Computer Aided Orthopedic Surgery for fractures of lower extremities
Preoperative planning is an essential step before performing any surgical procedure. Computer Aided Orthopedic Surgery (CAOS) systems are extensively used for the planning of surgeries for fractures of lower extremities. These systems are input an X-Ray image and the planning can be digitally overlaid onto the image. The planning includes reassembling the fractured bone and possibly adding impl...
متن کاملFusion and visualization of intraoperative cortical images with preoperative models for epilepsy surgical planning and guidance.
OBJECTIVE During epilepsy surgery it is important for the surgeon to correlate the preoperative cortical morphology (from preoperative images) with the intraoperative environment. Augmented Reality (AR) provides a solution for combining the real environment with virtual models. However, AR usually requires the use of specialized displays, and its effectiveness in the surgery still needs to be e...
متن کاملDevelopment and application of a virtual environment for reconstructive surgery.
OBJECTIVE This paper details the development and application of a Virtual Environment for Reconstructive Surgery (VERS). It addresses the technical and user-interface challenges in developing such a system, and the lessons learned during application of the system in the case of a 17-year-old boy with a severe facial defect arising from the removal of a soft-tissue sarcoma. MATERIALS AND METHO...
